Family Church Advent kicked off with a craft afternoon attended by over 160 people! The afternoon was a fantastic time for families in our community – the wreath making and paper cup advent calendar were particularly popular. Over 100 families are now taking part in Advent challenges and activities every day in the run up to Christmas. You can check out all the fun that people are having on our new facebook page, and join in the advent adventure with us: www.facebook.com/familychurchstthomascrookes
A fantastic afternoon of crafts, activities, festive food and music for the whole family – tomorrow 3-5pm, only £2 per child. Looking forward to seeing you there!
We are really looking forward to the beginning of Advent and the start of the Christmas season! Check out the Events Calendar for all the details about what is coming up in the next few weeks…….http://churchforfamilies.co.uk/events/
It’s 9.30am on a Sunday morning and 100 people (half of them under 7) are busy making microphones using tin foil, polystyrene balls, and cocktail sticks! Then there is a story, singing, amazing dancing and a great talk about being brave – where everyone gets to shout into their microphones really loudly. And after all this we eat biscuits and pastries and chat to all our friends. Come along to First Steps at the 9.30am gathering – it lasts just 45 minutes and is a great way to do church as a family.
There are no morning gatherings at St Thomas Crookes on October 13th. Instead we are all going out and doing fun things with our friends…..check out our Facebook page or the website for all the details of the 3 different things Family Church are doing tomorrow. Just turn up and join in the fun! https://www.facebook.com/groups/173473872745107/ or http://churchforfamilies.co.uk/sunday-13th-october/
One of the ladies who recently completed an Alpha course with Family Church writes:
“Women’s Alpha has been a fantastic experience and has helped me to re ignite my faith and given me answers to lots of questions. I know now that this is something I want to explore further and with the help of my new found friends from the group we will be able to carry on with our faith finding journeys.”
Alpha is an introduction to the Christian faith which takes place in small friendly groups where it’s OK to ask any question about life, faith or God. It’s free, informal and a lot of fun! Throughout the autumn there will be several more Alpha courses starting – do contact us if you would be interested in taking part.
Come to First Steps at the 9.30 gathering tomorrow morning to find out what exactly we are doing with 200 marshmallows, and how it links to our theme for the morning – ‘Waiting!’ Hope to see you there.
It was really exciting to baptise two people from Family Church at the 11am gathering this Sunday. In their testimonies they shared about how coming to First Steps and then doing an Alpha course had helped them to develop a relationship with Jesus. Their stories told of transformed lives – both for themselves and their families, and a desire to share the joy and peace they have found with others. It was great to celebrate with them, and even their kids were up on stage alongside them, which was fantastic to see! If you would like to know more about doing an Alpha course or First Steps (our 9.30 gathering for young families) check out the website for more details.
There were 100 people at the 9.30 gathering (First Steps) this Sunday, with lots of new families, as well as others returning after the summer break. Everyone had great fun dancing to the live music and the craft to design your own house was really popular. All this year we are going to be looking at ‘Church is Home’ – inviting other people into our homes, eating together and having fun! Now First Steps is weekly, you and your family can join us again next week for more fun, dancing, stories and songs.
All of the Family Church missional communities welcomed new people along in the last 7 days! New small groups started and more people hosted family teatime get-togethers. What a fantastic start to September. We have groups meeting in Crookes, Walkley, Hillsborough, and Crosspool on various days of the week, for families at all different stages of life – from first time parents, to those with kids at secondary school! We would love to welcome your family too. Click on the Midweek Communities link, and come and join in the adventure of faith with us!
